Get ready for a stellar day of connecting with organizations and finding a new purpose in your life! The Okanagan Volunteer Fair is just around the corner (Saturday, September 21 from 10-2 pm at Parkinson Recreation Centre) and over 60 local non-profits will be there to share about the many opportunities they offer for volunteers. I thought I would share some of these opportunities from groups that will be at the Fair and that also have listings on the Volunteer Connector ().

Project Literacy is looking for Volunteer Tutors with the ideal candidates being enthusiastic, empathetic, and patient volunteers with a sense of commitment towards their work and other people. Ideally they have good communication skills, a strong academic background and the ability to be flexible in responding to individual learner needs.

Kelowna Gospel Mission has a few positions available, including event volunteers that are able to help this Saturday at the annual Day of Recovery Event at Rowcliffe Park. These volunteers will help with directing traffic and then be able to participate in the BBQ and event activities. KGM is also looking for Outreach Volunteers, Food Truck Cashiers and Food Prep Volunteers.

Pathways Abilities Society is looking for volunteers to connect with their participants. Pathways Pathways assists many individuals with diverse abilities to live, work and participate in community. Volunteers need to be independent and their reward will be to spend time with one or more individuals who truly appreciate the connection and opportunity to be out in community, meeting new people and building friendships.

Childhood Connections supports the healthy growth of children in the community and have a variety of opportunities that include drivers for their Nourish Program, a Food Prep Person, a Child Minder and the opportunity to support Youth as a Mentor or activity assistant.

Niteo Africa Society exists to support young readers to obtain critical literacy skills in order to build bright and hopeful futures.both locally and globally. They are looking for book lovers to volunteer as Reading Mentors (both in the Central Okanagan and Vernon) and as Book Wranglers.

CNIB invites volunteers to make a difference in the lives of blind or partially sighted people as a Vision Mate! The Vision Mate program matches people who are blind or partially sighted with sighted volunteers who provide companionship and one-on-one assistance with everyday tasks and errands. Vision Mate volunteers can assist individuals with various activities including errands, going for walks, labelling and organizing household items, reading, or fun outings and recreational activities.

Are you intrigued and ready to learn more? Mark your calendars and come join us at the Okanagan Volunteer Fair on Saturday, September 21 from 10-2 pm at Parkinson Recreation Centre. Admission is free, yet attending will bring you many rich rewards.
