A jazz trio will perform at the Summerland Community Centre in early December.

Cherry Groove Ensemble, consisting of Charlene Cole, David Scott and Jim Redding, formed in the spring of 2023, playing styles from Latin to swing and from standards to modern. The members are working to create the sounds of 1960s West Coast cool jazz, following musicians including Paul Desmond and Scott Hamilton.

Cole has been playing the piano since she was six years old. In 1992, she completed her Associate of Music in piano and her Bachelor of Church Music degree. She has taught piano for more than 30 years and has also been involved as a vocalist, accompanist and worship leader.

She developed an interest in jazz in 2016.

Scott has been playing drums since he was 14. He has performed in combos and big bands for 40 years, playing all music genres, but with a love of jazz and swing. He also plays with a soft rock group in the Okanagan Valley.

Redding developed an interest in music when he was in the school band in 1970, playing in jazz and classical ensembles and also performing solo work in a variety of styles. He has a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music Education degree from the University of Victoria.

He has taught music in the public school system for 35 years.

The concert will be at the Summerland Community Centre on Friday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 and are available now at Artisans of the Okanagan, 13211A Victoria Rd. N, 250-404-3277. Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. on the evening of the event. There will be a cash bar available for wine and beer, 50/50 draw, and seating will be a cozy cafe-style.
