Lumberjacks and jills to be crowned timbersport Canadian champions in Kelowna

The 2024 Stihl Timbersports Canadian Championships are taking place at Prospera Place on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 17 and 18.

The 2024 Stihl Timbersports Canadian Championships are sawing their way into Kelowna's Prospera Place on Saturday, Aug. 17 and Sunday, Aug. 18.

Some of the best logging-sport athletes from across the country will be going through a series of timed events with sharp axes and the most powerful chainsaws until one is determined the champion.

On Saturday night, the powerful pro individual competition takes place. The competitors will go through six disciplines and three elimination rounds. In each discipline, points are rewarded for the fastest time. The ones with the lowest amount of points get eliminated. 

The six athletes with the most points will compete in the final round. Whoever wins the final round, the Hot Saw discipline, will be crowded the Canadian champion and punch their ticket to represent Canada at the world championships in Europe.

Ben Cumberland, the returning champ, will be trying to defend his title while he takes on the likes of former world champion Stirling Hart, B.C.'s Big Bill Bischoff, and Marcel º¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù˜The Beast from the Eastº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™ Dupuis.

The competition will continue on Sunday with the axe-tion and the hot saw showdown. In the axe-tion, the lumberjills will be showing off their skills as Quebecº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™s Stephanie Naud is looking to defend her national title. The winner will also move on to the world championships in Europe.

The two-day event will be filmed to be broadcasted on TSN at a later date.

Saturday's event begins at 6 p.m. while Sunday's at 2 p.m. Tickets are still available at and range from $20-$85.
