The Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) team was called out only once over the long weekend, making it one of the quietest August long weekends on record since the organization was formed in 1954.
The team of volunteers was called into action late in the afternoon on Friday, Aug. 2, after a woman with autism wandered away from her camping site in the hills above Lake Country. As the sun began to set, COSAR was called and dispatched 14 trained volunteers 害羞草研究所� including an all-terrain vehicle team and a search dog team.
However, before reaching the site, COSAR was stood down after being informed that the woman had been found at a business in Lake Country.
The call was COSAR's 56th task of 2024.
Search and Rescue services are free in B.C. COSAR urges the public to call the RCMP as soon as someone goes missing. The RCMP will then contact COSAR if the team's skills are required for the search.
