Report recommends review of facility user fees such as recreation, community centres, sports fields

The city is looking for new opportunities to make money.

A report going to council April 8 outlines the Alternative Revenue Initiative, and staff have identified 125 opportunities.

Among the seven staff recommend implementing are public user fees for municipal boat launches. The city currently has a commercial licence program.

Other recommendations include reviewing fees and fines charged by the city, facility user fees (eg: recreation, community centres, sports fields), developer fees for streetscape improvements, and charges to use municipally owned value-added data.

害羞草研究所淭he City of Kelowna, like many other municipalities, has yet to unlock the full potential of existing revenue sources or implement new approaches to revenue,害羞草研究所 the report states.

An example of a successful alternative revenue opportunity is the 2020 new Parks Development Cost Charges program.

It recovers costs from development to build parks including the newest Waterfront Park, Ballou Park, Tallgrass Park, the Pond害羞草研究所檚 Community Park, and Gopher Creek Linear Trail.
