The District of Lake Country posted to social media to share the efforts of the 40 Lake Country Fire Department members who fought a rapidly growing grass fire on June 11.
The members had arrived at the station Tuesday afternoon for training but were quickly called out to the human-caused blaze at Pow and Oceola Roads.
The local department called in BC Wildfire Service to assist. A ground crew was brought in and a bird dog plane circled Spion Kop Mountain to get an estimated size of the blaze.
Crews were able to contain the fire and it was reclassified around 9 p.m. to 'held'.
The wildfire service and two Lake Country firefighters remained on scene overnight to extinguish hot spots utilizing Lake Country's new structure protection unit.
The social media post by the district reads, "We greatly appreciate the Province of BC's FireSmart Community Funding supports administered through the Union of BC Municipalities Community Resiliency Investment fund grant that made the purchase of the Structure Protection Unit possible last year."
The fire is officially under control at 0.71 hectares.
