West Kelowna council has approved energy retrofit projects for Royal LePage Place (RLP) that will help reduce corporate greenhouse gas emissions (GHG).

In 2023, the city completed a Corporate Climate Action Plan alongside a FortisBC energy study of RLP.

The studies found that 40 per cent of the City of West Kelowna害羞草研究所檚 GHG emissions come from the Mt. Boucherie Complex, which includes the community centre, Royal LePage Place and Jim Lind Arena.

At its Mar. 12 meeting, staff told council that the five retrofit projects will reduce GHG at the Mt. Boucherie Complex by 54 per cent, which is equivalent to an approximate 22 per cent reduction in corporate emissions.

害羞草研究所淲hich will have a significant impact to the city reaching its goal of 30 per cent target reduction by 2030,害羞草研究所 said Erin Goodwin, facilities and recreation manager.

The combined energy and carbon tax savings would be approximately $94,000 a year by 2030, he added.

The estimated cost of the retrofits is $1.15 million, less FortisBC incentives of $480,240 for a net cost of $673,260 to the city.

That amount would be funded through the Municipal Finance Authority of BC.

害羞草研究所淚 think the current equipment financing rate is something like 5.6 per cent,害羞草研究所 added Warren Everton, chief financial officer.

The retrofits are scheduled to take place during two separate arena shutdowns in June 2024 and 2025.

A new video score clock and work to expand the media gondola at RLP will also take place this June.
