Update July 15

Kelowna RCMP are investigating a collision at the intersection of Highway 97 and Commonwealth Rd that occurred July 14 at approximately 2:15 p.m., involving a motorcycle and an SUV.

The motorcycle rider was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the SUV is currently under investigation for a criminal offence.

Anyone who may have witnessed this collision or has dash camera video is asked to phone the RCMP and reference police file number 2024-39634.

Update 5:55 p.m.

Highway 97 at Commonwealth Road in Kelowna is now open to single-lane alternating traffic, according to DriveBC.

Major delays are expected due to traffic congestion.

DriveBC is reporting a vehicle incident at Highway 97 and Commonwealth Road. 

Traffic is closed in both directions on the highway between Commonwealth and Beaver Lake roads.

Drivers needing to get between the two communities can still use Glenmore Road, however, delays should be expected.

Details of the crash are not known at this time.
