January 2023: Lake Country council approves tax increase of 17%

Lake Country residents received some hard-to-swallow news in January with a 17.05 per cent tax increase being proposed.

The jump in tax was largely due to the district害羞草研究所檚 increase in population requiring them to take on 90 per cent of policing costs. Rising wages and inflation were also cited.

Members of the community had a chance to voice their concerns at a budget town hall on Jan. 31. Residents addressed issues with road maintenance and proposed taxing construction companies with large commercial trucks damaging roadways. Another resident suggested selling off municipal land to offset the tax increase, to which Mayor Blair Ireland said the district is 害羞草研究所減robably the most land-poor municipality in the interior of B.C.害羞草研究所

The proposed increase of 17.05 per cent along with the rest of the 2023-2027 Financial Plan was adopted by council on March 7.
