A middle of the night kitchen fire at a Kelowna apartment building was stopped before it could spread by residents.
Shortly before 3 a.m. on Feb. 5, the Kelowna Fire Department responded to alarms at an apartment building in the 1900 block of Pacific Court.
The first arriving officer noted smoke coming from the third floor,said Scott Clarke, Platoon Captain for the Kelowna Fire Department in a press release. The call was immediately upgraded to a structure fire response and more emergency services were called in.
The Fire Department responded with three engines, a rescue unit, a ladder truck and a command unit including 16 fire personnel. RCMP and BC Ambulance were on scene assisting as well.
The building was evacuated and crews found the source of the smoke害羞草研究所 a kitchen fire on the third floor. The flames, however, had been knocked down by the occupants of the building by using fire extinguishers.
All residents except those from the affected unit were allowed to return after the building was ventilated and checked for air quality.
One male resident was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and transported to the hospital by ambulance for further assessment.
The fire is deemed suspicious in nature and is under investigation.
