A fire that engulfed the cedar hedges on the front lawn of a property in Kelowna's Rutland neighbourhood and also damaged two townhouses is no longer considered suspicious.

Following the blaze on June 21, it was believed the fire was under investigation as suspicious.

However, on June 24, RCMP confirmed that the fire was deemed accidental and no longer being treated as suspicious.

One townhouse suffered extensive damage from the fire, while a neighbouring home was affected by smoke.

The blaze forced 15 people to be displaced and placed in the care of Emergency Social Services.

Neighbour Braydyn Amyotte witnessed the blaze's growth. He says the fire started on the ground floor of the home before spreading out onto the front yard, where it engulfed the cedar hedges.
