Kelowna Rockets drop 2 road games against Victoria Royals

The Kelowna Rockets dropped both road games against the Victoria Royals by a score of 3-2.

On Friday night (Feb. 16) Kelowna fell behind 3-0 by halfway through the second period.

Dawson Pasternak scored his 21st and 22nd goals of the season in the Royals win, and Tyson Lavenutre added the third marker.

Tij Iginla got his 36th of the season, assisted by Marek Rocak and Dylan Wightman.

Kelowna captain Gabriel Szturc served a four-minute double minor penalty for high sticking early in the third period that Kelowna was able to kill off.

With about minute left in the game and the Rocketsº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™ net empty Caden Price got his 10th of the season, with assists to Rocak and Andrew Cristall, to make it a 3-2 final.

The power play was not working for either team as Victoria was 0-5 with the man advantage and the Rockets 0-3

Saturday night (Feb. 17) was another tough loss for Kelowna.

With just under a minute left in the first period Victoriaº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™s Reggie Newman (16) scored to make it 1-0.

Newman (17) would score again just :09 into the second period to put the Royals up 2-0.

The Rockets got on the board at 3:21 of the third when Tij Iginla (37) blasted a one timer from the right faceoff circle while on the power play.

Marek Rodak and Hiroki Gosic got the assists.

Five minutes later Gabriel Szturc (27) tied the game with assists going to Andrew Cristall and Carter Kowalyk.

Kelowna had a chance to take the lead when the Royals were assessed at too many men penalty at 16:43.

However, Victoriaº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™s Cole Reschny (17) grabbed the puck on a Rockets miscue and goaltender Jari Kykkanen to make it 3-2 and seal the win.

Victoria was 1-7 with the man advantage, while the Rockets power play went 1-6. Kelowna outshot the Royals 37-20.

The Rockets record is now 24-28-3-0 and they are seventh in the Western Conference.

Kelowna welcomes the Tri City Americans to Propera Place for their Family Day Game on Feb. 19.
