Man burned while battling flames of Kelowna deck fire

The fire was reported to be at 2910 McKenzie Rd

UPDATE: 12:15 p.m.

Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames on a deck of a duplex at 1290 McKenzie Road, Thursday afternoon.

A man had tried to douse the blaze himself before crews arrived, which helped to stop the spread of the fire.

However, the man did receive minor burns and smoke inhalation. BC Ambulance was called to the scene to assess the man.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.

There are multiple reports of a structure fire at Old Vernon and McKenzie Road.

Flames and back smoke can be seen coming from the deck of a home in the area, just before noon on Thursday.

Capital News has a reporter headed to the scene.
