On May 11, emergency crews were called to an area near the West Kelowna Yacht Club after reports that a woman had fallen into Powers Creek.

Police said a 911 call was placed by a friend of the senior-aged woman, who was taking photos on a rock when she slipped into the creek just after 10 a.m.

She was found floating face down in Okanagan Lake just before 11 a.m.

CPR was immediately performed, but she was pronounced dead shortly after.

Powers Creek had been moving swiftly in recent days due to freshet season, and heavy rains.
