Saving a prominent piece of Peachlandº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™s history

Renovations on the 114-year-old building, which houses the Peachland Museum, started in late 2023

Itº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™s been challenging but the Peachland Museum will soon be the new location for the visitor centre.

Renovations on the 114-year-old building started in late 2023.

A significant part of the project included removing hazardous materials such as lead and asbestos, which has now been completed, allowing other renovations to proceed.

The hazardous material removal took longer than anticipated, delaying the project a few weeks. Also, a heritage-style door and new second-floor exit stairs are not expected to arrive until mid-June.

Structural reinforcements on the second floor and electrical upgrades are nearly complete. Work on the new HVAC system begins soon with concrete and landscaping work to follow.

The renovations aim to preserve the historical integrity of the building while preparing it for dual use as a museum and visitor centre.

The project is funded primarily by a $600,000 Community Economic Resiliency Infrastructure Program (CERIP) grant, and $167,000 from the district to cover potential overages.

According to the Peachland Museum website, the eight-sided building was constructed in 1910 and served as a place of worship (Baptist church) until 1964.

It has also been a temporary municipal hall, parks and recreation office, fire hall, and public library.

The visitor centre is expected to open by the end of June.
