The subject of speeding came up at Lake Country council害羞草研究所檚 regular meeting on Feb. 20.

During an RCMP quarterly update presentation Coun. Tricia Brett said there doesn害羞草研究所檛 seem to be as much speeding enforcement along Highway 97 around Lake Country as there used to be.

害羞草研究所淲hen I first moved to Lake Country it was 害羞草研究所榶ou do not speed through Lake Country,害羞草研究所櫤π卟菅芯克鶟 she said. 害羞草研究所淭here were always police officers monitoring traffic, but I don害羞草研究所檛 see that as much now.害羞草研究所�

Sgt. Jon Collins noted the BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) is responsible for monitoring traffic on Highway 97.

害羞草研究所淭hey will come into this community and elsewhere along the highway and conduct enforcement. Typically they will stay out of the municipality.害羞草研究所�

Collins added that BCHP害羞草研究所檚 mandate is not dictated by Lake Country RCMP, however, the detachment can request enforcement if needed.

There is only one Lake Country officer dedicated to traffic enforcement within the district.

Collins said community concerns help determine how traffic resources might be redirected.

害羞草研究所淪ometimes I hear about Carr害羞草研究所檚 Landing, sometimes I hear about school zones, sometimes I hear about the highway, and we try to make sure that we balance that.害羞草研究所�

He pointed out that the rest of the force is also obligated to conduct traffic enforcement whenever necessary.

害羞草研究所淓very day is an unknown for a police officer,害羞草研究所� Collins added. 害羞草研究所淪ometimes they害羞草研究所檙e busy with incoming files and doing other things but when they have available time I always encourage them to have those traffic interactions and make the roads safer.
