Vernon police vehicle struck by suspected impaired driver from Kelowna

A Kelowna man is facing impaired driving charges after crashing into another vehicle in Vernon Sunday evening.

The other vehicle just happened to belong to the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP detachment with an officer behind the wheel.

The officer was stopped shortly before 12 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of 32nd Street and 30th Avenue when a small car making a turn in the intersection crashed into the front corner of the police car.

The driver was arrested and transported to the detachment where he provided two breath samples over twice the legal limit.

The 28-year-old man was released from custody and potentially faces charges for a number of driving-related offences.
