PHOTOS: Kelowna Raiders take gold in double OT

Kelowna Raiders beat Port Coquitlam Hitmen to take home gold

It was an exciting weekend at Kelowna's Memorial Arena where the Senior C Men's Lacrosse Provincial Championships took place.

The Kelowna Raiders, in front of their hometown crowd, earned a spot in the gold medal game after going undefeated through the round-robin and semi-finals.

The Raiders took on the Port Coquitlam Hitmen in a winner-take-all final on Sunday, Aug. 11.

Kelowna started off slow, giving up five goals before being able to claw back in it, with three straight. Hitmen led 5-3 after one.

A back-and-forth middle frame saw the Raiders inch closer, as they were down just one heading into the third.

The low-scoring third period set the stage for overtime, as Kelowna and PoCo were knotted a 11-11.

The 10-minute overtime period was also a defensive battle. Kelowna scored first, but the Hitmen responded with just 40 seconds left to tie the game up at 12-12. That set up a second overtime, which would be sudden death.

In double overtime, game MVP Dayton McIntosh scored, to give the Raiders an epic victory, and the provincial championship.

The Kelowna Raiders are now three-time provincial champs.
