The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure will be updating the CSRD on the Bruhn Bridge replacement project on July 18, 2024.

It is anticipated the 62-year-old Bruhn Bridge along Highway 1 at Sicamous will be decommissioned in 2027, when its replacement is expected to be complete.

This is according to a slide show to be presented by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure at the Columbia Shuswap Regional District's board meeting on July 18.

An "anticipated construction schedule" included among the slides shows completion of the new four-lane bridge in 2026, though the bridge's multi-use path isn't expected to be finished until 2027.

The project has been in the works since before May 2016, when a document shared on the ministry's website provided an overview of the current bridge and three options for its replacement, including a four lane bridge with a second bridge at the end of Sicamous' Main Street Landing, which the document noted was the

In 2018, following public consultation, the ministry chose to go with a . A bridge design released in 2021 showed the ministry had reduced the number of lanes to four.

According to the slide show, "contractor mobilization" is expected to start in September 2024. Construction will include blasting along the highway to the west of the channel, with multiple retaining walls being set up. A map included with the presentation shows a pre-load area by Beach Park. Regarding traffic management, the ministry's objectives include the "provision of consistent and predictable access for local residents and businesses,"  avoidance of closures during regular commuter times and limiting closures during peak summer tourist season.

A schedule of closure times shows closures occurring between 7:30 and 9 p.m., and midnight to 4 a.m. in the summer (June 15 to Sept. 15), and between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., and midnight to 4 a.m. in the winter (Sept. 16-June 14). During closures, all traffic on the Trans-Canada Highway will be directed to an alternate route along Highway 97A and 97B. When extended closures aren't required, travel may be reduced to single-lane alternating traffic.
