Traffic has come to a halt in both directions on Highway 97 in downtown Vernon due to a collision that involved two pedestrians and two vehicles.

RCMP, Vernon Fire Rescue Services and BC Ambulance are at the scene of a crash that involved two pedestrians at 32nd Street (Highway 97) and 32nd Avenue.

The crash took place around 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23.

A truck and a sedan were involved in the collision, with the sedan also colliding with a nearby building. The sedan's front bumper could be seen attached to the back bumper of the truck.

Despite apparent damage to the vehicles, both drivers appear to be OK.

One of the drivers confirmed with The Morning Star that two pedestrians were hit.

The extent of any potential injuries to the pedestrians is currently unknown.

"This is the fourth crash this week"  at this location, a witness said at the scene. She pointed two blocks down the road, where a young girl was hit in the crosswalk and later died. "Her funeral is tomorrow."

The Morning Star has reached out to the City of Vernon and the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP for more information.
