It seemed the entire community was pulling for Lynza Henke, a Vernon girl who was put on life support after being struck by a vehicle in a crosswalk last month.

And now that the worst news has been confirmed, the community is showing an outpouring of support for the 15-year-old's family.

Vernon Teach and Learn, a longstanding, community-oriented Vernon business run by Henke's family, announced on that Henke has died. 

"We loved the 15 years we had with Lynza. She has gone to heaven and we will miss her so much. We are thankful for the prayers of many and the thoughts and kindness of so many. There will be a funeral which everyone is welcome to," the Friday evening (Aug. 16) post reads. 

As of Saturday morning, more than 1,000 individuals and businesses have commented on the post, offering their condolences in the wake of the tragedy. 

"We are so sorry to hear about the loss of your sweet angel. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Henke family," wrote Teeter Totter Toys. 

Vernon Town Theatre wrote that "our hearts are breaking. A beautiful soul gone too soon."

Henke was struck by a truck in a marked crosswalk on July 20 while on a run to buy ingredients to make fudge. She was transported to BC Children's Hospital in critical condition. 

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP has said it is investigating the collision.
