Crime activity declines in Oliver, rises in Osoyoos for last quarter of 2023

Calls for police service decreased in Oliver but increased in Osoyoos, according to the last quarter害羞草研究所檚 policing statistics for 2023.

The statistics were presented to the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen on Feb. 8.

The Oliver RCMP detachment received 738 calls for service in the fourth quarter of 2023, a three per cent decrease from the same period in 2022 when 760 calls for service were reported.

Violent crime incidents increased significantly, with a total of 20, up from seven during the same period in 2022. Included in Oliver害羞草研究所檚 violent crimes were eight assaults and seven instances of uttering threats. Both represent significant increases.

Property crimes in Oliver fell by 51 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2023, with 54 incidents reported. In the fourth quarter of 2022, there were 111 property crimes reported.

The number of auto thefts increased from two in the fourth quarter of 2022 to six in the fourth quarter of 2023. One incident of residential break-and-enter was recorded in the fourth quarter of 2023. In the same period a year earlier, none had been recorded. The number of frauds remained steady at 10.

In all other categories, the number of incidents fell significantly in the fourth quarter of 2023.

In Osoyoos, police received 573 calls for service in the fourth quarter of 2023, a 13 per cent increase from the 507 calls for service in the fourth quarter of 2022.

Violent crimes remained steady, with a total of 18 incidents in the final quarter of both years.

The number of property crimes rose from 39 in the fourth quarter of 2022 to 49 in the fourth quarter of 2023. This represents a 26 per cent increase.

Fraud figures rose from 11 incidents in the fourth quarter of 2022 to 21 in the fourth quarter of 2023.
