Drugs and alcohol resulted in two drivers being temporarily without wheels after being stopped by Chase RCMP.

Just before 1 p.m. on July 19, police were advised of an erratic driver on the Trans-Canada Highway, with the caller reporting that a black Ford SUV was "all over the road," which officers located west of Chase.

"The driver, a 35-year-old man from West Kelowna, was acting strangely and had white paste caked on his lips and tongue," Const. Sarah Van Wilgenburg said in a media release. "He attempted to blame his poor driving on his little dog."

Officers took a breath sample that resulted in a '0' reading, which ruled out alcohol as the reason for impairment. They then conducted a field sobriety test in which the driver performed poorly.

"This result indicated his ability to drive was impaired by drugs," Van Wilgenburg said, adding that he was issued an immediate 24-hour driving prohibition and his vehicle towed.

At 6:19 a.m. the following day, July 20, the Chase detachment were advised that a blue Dodge SUV was upside down in a ditch on Squilax-Anglemont Road in Scotch Creek. Police and ambulance attended the scene where they found the driver, a 43-year old woman from Scotch Creek, was uninjured.

She did, however, appear to be intoxicated and smelled of alcohol, with roadside breath samples resulting in 'fail' readings. The woman was issued a driving prohibition for 90 days, and her vehicle impounded for 30.
