A man now has a three month driving prohibition, fines and possible charges after taking on-street parking a bit too literally. 

While on patrol around 12:30 a.m. on June 9, Salmon Arm RCMP officers noticed a white Chevy Cruze parked in the middle of 3rd Street SE and conducted a traffic stop to check on the driver. The 23-year-old driver got out of the car and immediately told police he wasn't driving.

He then fled on foot, the officers gave chase and managed to stop him about 50 metres down the road and arrested him for obstruction. Police noted that the man was displaying symptoms of being impaired, with glazed eyes and smelling of alcohol. They conducted a breath, which the driver failed on both the first and second samples. 

"The driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition, and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days," Const. Andrew Hodges said in a media release. "The man was also served violation tickets for no driver's licence, and liquor in motor vehicle."

The man was escorted to cells where he had a sleep over to safely sober up, and was released the following morning once he was no longer intoxicated.

One count of resisting arrest is also being forwarded to BC Prosecution for assessment against the man.
