German man injured in crash

A Mountie applied his training and saved the life of a German tourist this week.

A pedestrian was struck by a motorcycle on Highway 97 near the intersection of Butt Road in West Kelowna May 21, at 1:30 p.m.

Mounties determined that a pedestrian had attempted to cross the busy multi lane highway, approximately 100 meters away from the controlled intersection, when he was struck by a northbound Harley Davidson motorcycle.

害羞草研究所淭he pedestrian, a 68-year-old man visiting from Germany, who sustained serious bodily injuries, was suffering from severe blood loss as a result of a large bleed,害羞草研究所 said Cpl. Jesse O害羞草研究所橠onaghey, in a press release.

He was being provided first aid treatment from bystanders until emergency crews could arrive on scene.

害羞草研究所淥ne of our officers applied a tourniquet to the man害羞草研究所檚 severe leg wound,害羞草研究所 said O害羞草研究所橠onaghey. 害羞草研究所淚t is believed that the officer害羞草研究所檚 prompt assessment of the situation and decisive actions taken may have saved the man害羞草研究所檚 life and likely contributed to the victim害羞草研究所檚 ongoing medical recovery.害羞草研究所

The motorcyclist, a 29-year-old Kelowna man, was assessed and treated for minor injuries by emergency paramedics at the scene.

Efforts remain underway, as RCMP continue to work with the German Consulate in Toronto and the German National Police to locate the man害羞草研究所檚 next of kin in Germany.
