Crews snuffed out a grass fire behind the People Place in Vernon Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 7, 2024.

Crews were quick to extinguish a grass fire that sparked behind The People Place in Vernon in the early afternoon of Wednesday.

Vernon Fire Rescue Services responded to the fire around 12:15 p.m. Aug. 7.

Crews could be seen dousing the scorched area off 27th Avenue.

Witnesses reported a nearby homeowner had a hose on the fire promptly, and a couple other people were dumping water bottles on the fire before the arrival of crews.

"I guess someone was pissed off and lit their stuff on fire," said one witness as People Place staff cleaned up shredded paper and small documents that were blowing around in the area.
