An online fundraiser has been launched for a young Kelowna family that survived a house fire.

The fire sparked at about 2:30 p.m. on March 7, in the 2000-block of Richter Street.

The for the Mendelsohn family states that the mom was home at the time with her six kids, all under the age of 10, but was able to safely evacuate everyone from the home.

The interior of the home was heavily damaged in the blaze and is no longer safe for the family of seven.

The fundraiser aims to help the Mendelsohns with rent and a damage deposit on a new place. The family is said to be very thrifty and will take advantage of that to get back on their feet.

The fundraiser has garnered over $3,300 to support the family.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
