A wildfire sparked overnight by lightning south of Salmon Arm was last estimated to be 10 hectares.

In a Monday morning (Aug. 5) update, BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) reported having three initial attack crews working the out-of-control blaze that began Sunday night upslope between the 2500 and 2700 block of Salmon River Road, southwest of Enderby. 

As of 8:50 a.m. Monday, no evacuation alerts or orders had been issued. 

The Siver Creek Fire Department reported a helicopter was used overnight to bucket the fire while the Shuswap Emergency Program (SEP) said the BCWS was assessing the blaze and was sending additional resources. 

"Members of the Silver Creek Fire Department responded and remained in the area overnight to monitor the blaze," said SEP in a Monday morning update. "We thank them for their work overnight to ensure this fire did not pose a threat to any structures."

SEP and the Columbia Shuswap Regional District warned more fires may crop up in the next 72 hours as a result of the lightnight storm. 

Mara Mountain wildfire

The Mara Mountain wildfire burning southeast of Sicamous may have appeared "more dramatic" overnight, but SEP said BCWS reported seeing minimal growth. 

"BCWS continues to report there is no threat to the communities of Sicamous and Swansea Point at this time," said SEP of the 281.4 hectare blaze.
