Low reservoir levels force Greater Vernon water switch

Customers usually serviced by Duteau source now getting water from Kalamalka source

Low water reservoir levels have prompted a change of water source in the North Okanagan.

The Regional District of North Okanagan has alerted customers of Greater Vernon Water that the Kalamalka Lake water source will be supplied to areas on the map above usually served by the Duteau Creek source.

Duteau Creek reservoirs are lower than normal for this time of year, due to a lack of fall precipitation. To conserve water in those reservoirs, some areas have already been changed to the Kalamalka Lake source. This change expands those areas.

Customers who are not usually on the Kalamalka water source may notice that the water is harder and has higher alkalinity and pH. This may be of interest to those customers who have in-home water treatment systems or aquariums.

Customers will be notified of any updates at (filter by Water Notices) and local news.
