Motorcyclist seriously injured

Accident with a deer on Highway 97 between Lake Country and Kelowna sends man to hospital

RCMP responded to scene of the accident Tuesday evening April, 19, 2017.

A deer played a role in a highway collision that saw a motorcyclist seriously injured Tuesday evening on the borders of Kelowna and Lake Country.

Lake Country RCMP responded to a report of a single motorcycle crash on Highway 97 near Commonwealth Road on Tuesday evening shortly before 10 p.m.

Police have determined that the rider, and sole occupant of the motorcycle, had been northbound on the highway south of the intersection when he collided with a deer in the right hand lane.

The 26-year-old Lake Country man sustained serious injuries, believed to be non-life threatening in nature and was transported to hospital.

Alcohol is not believed to be involved in the crash, however investigators have not yet ruled out speed as a potential contributing factor.
