The Okanagan Connector and Coquihalla Highway from Merritt to Kamloops are expecting 70 km/h winds on Tuesday, June 11

A wind warning is in effect for the Coquihalla Highway from Merritt to Kamloops and Okanagan Connector in the afternoon, according to Environment Canada.

Because of a Pacific frontal system moving through Southern B.C. on June 11, the two stretches of highway are expecting 70 km/h winds with gusts reaching 90 km/h winds.

"High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break," said Environment Canada in the wind warning statement. "Utility outages may occur. Motorists, especially in high profile vehicles, may expect hazardous driving conditions on highways subject to strong cross winds.

The winds are expected to subdue in the evening.

There is a risk of a thunderstorm in Kelowna in the afternoon.
