On this edition of º¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù˜Today in BCº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™, host Peter McCully chats with two authors, Grant Lawrence and Bob Williams on the second edition of the º¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù˜Made in BC Book Clubº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™.

In the first segment of º¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù˜Today in BCº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™, Grant Lawrence, CBC Broadcaster and award-winning author offers more Desolation Sound adventures in his long-awaited sequel to º¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù˜Adventures in Solitude,º¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™ with stories of the º¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù˜Cougar Ladyº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™, º¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù˜Bernard the Germanº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™ and º¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù˜Russell the Hermitº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™.

º¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù˜Russell ended up in a homemade shack in Desolation Sound beyond any road or any semblance of electricity or plumbing. Or anything. He was a full-blown, real-life hermit that lived in a shack for 10 years and really changed my life. He opened my up my mind to rock and roll music and to alternative writing and books that I had never heard of, or writers that I had never heard of. And it was just a real cultural awakening for me,º¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™ says Lawrence.

Bob Williams is a former British Columbia cabinet minister who played a key role in establishing the Agricultural Land Reserve and the Insurance corporation of British Columbia during B.C.º¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™s first NDP government in the 1970s. º¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù˜Using Power Wellº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™ is a biography, by Bob Williams, with Benjamin Isitt and Thomas Bevan.

º¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù˜I see a naivety around decisions being made particularly on housing,º¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™ says Williams. º¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù˜The fact that the housing problem is so serious in this province, especially here in the lower mainland, given what weº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™re doing now, itº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™s almost unachievable. Because the rush to the province from the rest of Canada and internationally is so substantial. In the lower mainland we have a limited capacity to accommodate them. So, we have to rethink the way we settle people in B.C. Thatº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™s exciting actually, but it isnº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™t happening even with my government right nowº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™.
