Sicamous murder victim identified as 66-year-old local woman

RCMP warn of potential safety risk though it's believed to be isolated incident

RCMP Major Crimes Unit identify Sicamous murder victim as Jo Ann Jackson, a 66-year-old local woman.

Police are asking the public for information relating to the death of a 66-year-old woman from Sicamous, and advised caution among the public.

At about 5 a.m. on June 19, the Sicamous RCMP and BC Ambulance Service responded to the call of a woman in medical distress but, despite medical assistance being administered, the she was declared dead at the scene. 

"We can confirm that the deceased is 66-year-old Jo Ann Jackson of Sicamous," Southeast District RCMP Cpl. James Grandy said in a June 20 media release. "A male was located and in the area and subsequently arrested for manslaughter and transported to the Salmon Arm RCMP detachment."

The man was released on Thursday, with a number of protective conditions to follow, primarily not to return to the 1701 Hillier Road property. 

"Jackson's death is believed to be an isolated incident. However, investigators believe there could be a potential safety risk," Grandy added. "Therefore, police will also be implementing additional measures within our authority in an effort to mitigate public safety concerns."

Investigators are asking anyone who may video, dash cam or other between 1 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. in the Hillier Rd. area on June 19 to contact the Major Crimes Unit tip line at 1-877-987-8477.
