The Summerland Community Arts Council will replace its holiday-themed banners for the festive season in 2024.

The arts council has submitted a proposal to the municipality of Summerland, proposing 17 copies each of 10 original holiday-themed designs which will be displayed around the community.

The cost of this project is estimated at $24,000. The money is already allocated in the Summerland budget.

The banners would measure 61 by 152 centimetres and would be produced on a weather-proof vinyl material with reinforced metal corner grommets for hanging.

The call to artists would include a category for children between the ages of six and 14. A minimum of two banners designed by children would be included. Those older than 14 could submit in an adult category.

The theme for the designs is Holiday Magic and the entries will be juried by Summerland council members.

The call to artists will come out on April 2, with a submission deadline of Aug. 31.

The Summerland Community Arts Council has had a summer street banner project in place since 1998. In addition, special banners are displayed in fall, prior to Remembrance Day, and holiday-themed banners have been displayed by the community in November and December.

Coun. Janet Peake said the holiday banner project will help to maintain a thriving arts and cultural program in Summerland.
