The Okanagan Skaha School District will hold public engagement sessions on its long-range facilities planning process.

In January, the school board received recommendations from staff, suggesting to close two elementary schools in Penticton and one elementary school in Summerland.

The recommendations also call for the three middle schools to be converted to elementary schools, and the grade structure in the schools will be reconfigured. The reason for the proposed changes is declining enrolment.

The school district will hold three engagement sessions in February. These will be focused on sharing more detailed information with the public and school communities within each family of schools.

Each session will be focused on a particular family of schools, but people are welcome to attend any of the sessions.

The February engagement sessions will include an opportunity for a 害羞草研究所済allery walk害羞草研究所 to see visuals of various components of the proposed plan and focused table talks to receive community input on the proposed plan.

Feedback and questions will be collected throughout the evening and will be shared on the LetsConnect website following the sessions.

The sessions will be led by school administrators and district staff. Trustees will be present to listen to discussions and receive questions and feedback.

The school board will then review and consider all feedback received throughout the public engagement process as they consider the recommended plan.

Additional community engagement sessions will take place in March.

The public engagement period began Feb 1. Sessions are planned from Feb. 5 to 7, followed by a board in-service on Feb. 26.

On Feb. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m., a community engagement session will be held at the Skaha Lake Middle School gym for the Princess Margaret Secondary School family of schools.

On Feb. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m., a community engagement session will be held at the KVR Middle School gym for the Penticton Secondary School family of schools.

On Feb. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m., a community engagement session will be held at the Summerland Middle School gym for the Summerland Secondary School family of schools.

The board in-service will be held Feb. 26, from 4 to 7 p.m., to review the community input received to date.

Additional community engagement sessions will be held March 4 to 6 from 6 to 8 p.m., with locations to be determined.

On March 11, from 4 to 7 p.m., a board in-service will be held to review community input.

The public engagement period ends April 5.

On April 8 from 4 to 7 p.m., a board in-service will be eld to review community input received to date.

A special school board meeting will be held April 10, from 6 to 8 p.m., to review recommendations based on the engagement period. The meeting will include a school board decision with a potential motion to adopt the recommended facilities plan.

If the school board adopts the recommended plan, three readings of the school closures bylaw will be required.
