The lightning-ignited Mount Griffin wildfires west of Revesltoke were discovered Thursday morning, July 18, 2024.

The number of fires sparked overnight by lightning in the Columbia-Shuswap continues to creep upward.

Two wildfires were discovered west of Three Valley Gap on Thursday morning, July 18. The one closest, the Mount Griffin fire, is at .3 hectares, while the Mount Griffin #2 fire to the southwest was spot-sized at .009 hectares.

As of 10:30 a.m. on July 18, the BC Wildfire Service had four new fires on its Current Wildfire Situation map, while two more were reported in the Seymour Arm area. The Columbia Shuswap Regional District said those fires were being assessed.

The BCWS said it has a helicopter crew flying throughout the region, looking for fire starts sparked by dry lightning.
