UPDATE 1/16 7 a.m.

The Coquihalla Highway reopened at 6:36 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

Original

A multi-vehicle semi truck crash has closed the southbound lanes of the Coquihalla Highway.

The incident was reported at about 7 p.m., Monday, that tractor trailers were blocking all southbound lanes near Box Canyon.

Then just before 11 p.m., DriveBC reported that a police incident was blocking exit 286, 11 km south of the Great Bear Snowshed to Merritt in the southbound lanes, due to a previous vehicle collision.

Emergency crews are on scene and drivers are asked to slow down and use caution. An assessment is in progress.

Dozens of semi-trucks are reportedly lined up southbound on the Coquihalla, awaiting the highway to reopen.

Environment Canada issued snowfall warnings on Monday for the Coquihalla, Okanagan Connector, Highway 3 from Hope to Princeton via Allison Pass, and the Trans-Canada Highway from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass.

Highway 8 is not available as an alternate route.

The next update is 11:30 p.m. according to DriveBC.
