Armstrong cowboy Jaret Cooper collected a score but no cash in the first go-round at the 2023 Canadian Finals Rodeo (CFR) in Red Deer.

The regular season champion in novice saddlebronc rode Big Stone Rodeoº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™s 7-11 Fruit Cup horse to a score of 69 (out of 100), leaving him third among the three finalists after the opening night Wednesday, Nov. 1.

The top three cowboys in the regular season based on money earnings qualified to compete for the CFR championship buckle.

Colten Powell from Sylvan Lake, Alta. º¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù“ third in the regular season with $16,811.42 in winnings º¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù“ rode Duffy Rodeoº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™s 242 Tool Time to a performance-winning 72.5, good for $1,020.

Dylan Young of Sturgeon County, Alta., who was second during the year with $18,070.60, picked up a score of 70 aboard Vold Rodeoº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™s P87 Turf Wars, earning $680.

Cooper won $19,813.97 during the season. He finished third in the event at the 2022 CFR.

There are two more performances in the event Thursday and Friday, Nov. 2 and 3.
