Basran shuts out Tigers in first WHL start

It was a WHL debut to remember for Roman Basran.

In his first ever start, the 16-year-old netminder stopped all 38 shots in a Saturday at Prospera Place.

Basran, a native of Delta, started the season with the B.C. Major Midget Leagueº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™s Okanagan Rockets, but was called up when Brodan Salmond went down with an injury.

Basran saw his first action with Kelowna the previous week, playing the last 39 minutes and giving up two goals on 19 shots in a 6-1 loss to Vancouver.

Another rookie, Liam Kindree got things started for Kelowna 1:17 into the middle frame with his fourth of the season.

Dillon Dube extended Kelownaº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™s lead at 14:41 with his 14th goal, then with 53.6 seconds to play in the second period Carsen Twarynski notched his 15th and the Rocketsº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™ fourth shorthanded goal of the season to make it 3-0.

James Hilsendagerº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™s point shot found its way through traffic to give the Rockets a 4-0 cushion 1:16 in to the third.

Kelowna enjoyed multi-point evenings from Carsen Twarynski(1G, 2A), Dillon Dube(1G,1A), Liam Kindree(1G, 1A), and Kaedan Korczak(2A).

The Rockets, who play host to Prince George Wednesday, improve to 14-8-2-1.
