The host province is one win away from playing for gold at the National U18 Women害羞草研究所檚 Hockey Championships in Dawson Creek.
Team B.C. 害羞草研究所� whose lineup is dotted with players from the Okanagan and Kelowna-based Rink Hockey Academy 害羞草研究所� advanced to a Friday night final four matchup by downing Saskatchewan 5-3 in quarterfinal play Thursday, Nov. 9.
B.C. faces Quebec Friday evening for a chance to advance to Saturday害羞草研究所檚 gold-medal match. The other semifinal has Ontario Red playing Alberta.
Kelowna害羞草研究所檚 Brielle Kelly-Paquet from Rink Hockey Academy scored the B.C. insurance goal 4:20 into the third period, after the hosts had taken a 4-3 lead into the dressing room. The goal was set up by Morgan Jackson of Courtenay and Aurora Kahlert of Maple Ridge.
B.C. never trailed in the quarterfinal.
They jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead on goals from Taya Lonsdale of Shawnigan Lake (set up by Jackson and Danica Maynard of Osoyoos, who plays for Rink) and North Vancouver害羞草研究所檚 Chloe Primerano, who also plays for Rink).
Jackson added her third point with a goal, assisted by Kelowna害羞草研究所檚 Gracie Graham from Rink and London McDavid of Maple Ridge. Maynard picked up a second helper on a goal from from Molly Cole of Langley.
Vernon害羞草研究所檚 Holly Magnus of the Thompson Okanagan Lakers, Coldstream害羞草研究所檚 Scarlett Jones, who plays for the Delta Hockey Academy, and Rink members Kennedy Sisson of Lake Counry and Kaitlyn Mallette of Kelowna, also play for Team B.C.
Goalie Clara Juca of New Westminster picked up the win, making 22 saves.
Quebec won its quarterfinal match, 7-4 over Manitoba. Ontario Red defeated Team Atlantic 7-1, and Albert blanked Ontario Blue 1-0 on a goal three minutes into the third period.
