Flood protection construction will be closing part of Mission Creek Greenway on Aug. 21 and 22.

Flood protection work will be closing part of the Mission Creek Greenway for two days.

The portion from Robert Hobson Environmental Education Centre for the Okanagan (RHEECO) to KLO Road will be closed to cyclists and pedestrians on Aug. 21 and 22 as gravel will be added to raise the height of the path, according to the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO).

Heavy equipment, including bulldozers, dump trucks, and a compactor will be operated in the area and Mayer Road will be used as the primary access point to the construction site.

As part of the project, four riffles will be installed, which will improve flood protection as well as fish habitat in Mission Creek in Mission Creek Regional Park. This is part of the Mill Creek Flood Protection project, funded by partnership the City of Kelowna, Mission Creek Restoration Initiative (MCRI) and the Government of Canada.
