UPDATE: 3 people taken to Kelowna hospital after bus crashes into light pole

The crash happened around 7:15 p.m.

Three people have been taken to hospital after a city bus crashed into a light post on Springfield Road between Benvoulin Road and Durnin Road around 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday night (July 30) in Kelowna.

The three people taken to hospital were the bus driver and two passengers, but they all believed to have minor injuries. BC Transit stated to Black Press Media that three people were taken to hospital while the Kelowna RCMP say two were.

The right lane eastbound on Springfield was briefly closed due to the crash. RCMP, emergency services, and traffic control were at the scene.

BC Transit told Black Press Media they are aware of the incident and confirmed the bus suffered significant damage to the windshield and mobility ramp.

"Our thoughts are with everyone involved in this incident, and BC Transit thanks emergency services for their fast response," said BC Transit in a statement. "Safety is our top priority at BC Transit. We are assisting the Kelowna RCMP with their investigation into the incident, and we will also be conducting an internal investigation. As this is an active investigation, any further information should be provided by the Kelowna RCMP."

According to RCMP, the investigation is still ongoing but it was not criminal in nature.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, was a passenger on the bus, or has any information can contact the RCMP at 250-762-3300 with the file number 2024-43582.
