Kelowna bistro opens up to serving breakfast

Kelowna cafe and bistro offering more options for its customers

O-Lake Caf茅 & Bistro, at 375 Lawrence Ave. in downtown Kelowna, is now serving breakfast.

Located at the corner of Lawrence and Pandosy, O-Lake Caf茅 & Bistro is owned and operated by Susan Feng and master baker Siqi Zhong. Breakfast will be served from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday to Sunday, with four different breakfast plate options  to choose from. We tasted two different breakfasts, and the quality and portions were unbelievable. O-Lakes summer hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Along with their new breakfast menu, O-Lake also offers high tea, specialty coffee, extensive tea choices, slush, iced tea, milk tea custom cakes, party hosting, bingsu, a large variety of home-made buns and pastries. O-Lake specializes in incredible custom cakes, including wedding cakes. Their unique baking menu offers curry beef turnovers, mille crepes, cake sandwiches, coconut paste buns and apple pie. Also added to the menu of late are Shanghai noodles which are delicious.

 

City Centre Veterinary Clinic has opened at 102-750 Vaughan Ave., in downtown Kelowna. It害羞草研究所檚 a new option for animal health care as the only downtown veterinary clinic. Owned and operated by husband-and-wife veterinary team, Dr. David Seefeldt and Dr. Kim Crisanti, their goal is to provide exceptional veterinary care and client service and to become a strong partner in their community. They have already fostered working partnerships with the Kelowna SPCA, Fletcher害羞草研究所檚 Keep Senior Dog Foundation and are working to foster new ones. Take your pooch or kitty for a walk and attend the City Center Vet Clinic grand opening open house on Saturday, Aug. 24, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  

Made In Indian Restaurants have opened a 5th new location in Orchard Park Shopping Centre's food court. Owned and operated by Brijesh Negi and Sheeshpal Singh, who are both chefs educated in India, Made In Indian has become a go-to-place for eat-in or take-out for lunch and dinner. The new location has six staff and offers all their popular dishes along with combos. Of course, Brijesh and Sheeshpal sent me home with a combo of brown rice, butter chicken and mixed vegetables, along with the most delicious and my favourite naan bread. Made In India also have locations on KLO Road, Commerce Avenue, Lake Country and West Kelowna. 

 

MisMack Clean Cosmetics, owned and operated by founder and CEO Missy MacKintosh, will host its very first Makeup Over 40 Master Class with Primetime Emmy and Canadian Screen Award-nominated makeup artist Lucky, from Schitt害羞草研究所檚 Creek. Lucky will teach Makeup Over 40 using all MisMack Clean Cosmetics. MisMack is Canada害羞草研究所檚 award-winning clean beauty line created by local Missy Mackintosh. Join them on Sunday, Aug. 25, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Rotary Centre for the Arts. Tickets are limited and include a $50 credit to shop with MisMack during the event. 

100 Women Who Care is a group of women who get together four times a year and host a two-hour social event, listen to three charities speak for five minutes and give donations to the winning charity. Members then vote for the winning charity that evening. Rose Sexsmith started the group 10 years ago. Rose has since retired from organizing the event. A new committee has been formed and they would like to keep it growing, with the last meeting hosting 85 women. I am proud to say that I am a member of 100 Women Who Care. The next meeting will be Oct. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Kelowna Flight Center of Excellence. Keep tuned for more information as the event comes closer to the Oct. 22 date. The goal is to raise anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000  or more at each meeting which will make a meaningful impact to these smaller charities who do not receive government funding and are often operated by volunteers. Personal note of congratulations to both David Rush and Steve Thomson for co-chairing the 2026 Memorial Cup Bid. If successful in the bid, it would make the second time for the Rockets to host the prestigious 10-day tournament. 

Patrena Mackie has joined Okanagan College as the new dean of health and social development on Sept. 9. With over 17 years of experience in teaching and health care, Patrena holds a Master of Education and a Bachelor of Nursing. She comes from Bow Valley College where she was the associate dean of the School of Health and Wellness, Nursing portfolio.

Tim Martin was the last Representative of Canada in Kandahar. In his new book Unwinnable Peace: Untold Stories of Canada害羞草研究所檚 Mission in Afghanistan, the veteran diplomat reflects on Canada害羞草研究所檚 longest war (2001-2014) which pushed military diplomatic, development and humanitarian organizations to their limits. Join Tim at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 20,  at the Okanagan Military Museum, 1424 Ellis St., as he recounts the personal and professional challenges faced by individuals deeply committed to securing and rebuilding Kandahar province. This is a free event by donation, but registration is recommended.  

Beem Credit Union (formed by the merger of Gulf and Fraser and Interior Savings) will host its popular Moonlight Move Tour from Aug. 17 to 29  across 11 communities in B.C. Since its inception in 2008, this initiative has raised over $210,000 in donations. The event will take place in West Kelowna on Aug. 20, Lake Country on Aug.  21 and Kelowna on Aug. 22. Bring your blankets, lawn chairs and cash for admission and concessions. Admission is by donation, with a suggested minimum of $3 per person or $10  per family. Sandrine French Pastry and Chocolate, located at 1865B Dilworth Dr.,  in business for 20 years, now offers a Bakery ATM at the Kelowna International Airport. You can taste macarons, cake, fresh pastries, croissants, assorted cookies, meringues, croissant sandwiches, chocolate boxes and assorted chocolate bars. Owner Sandrine Raffault is a 3rd generation artisan chocolatier and French pastry chef from Beaujolais, France.

The Kelowna Sunrise Rotary Club has donated $50,000 for Freedom害羞草研究所檚 Door Belaire Avenue Townhomes Project. The project is an initiative of Freedom害羞草研究所檚 Door which will lead people from living in tents to a whole new life of recovery from their former chaos in addition and mental health issues. Freedom害羞草研究所檚 Door has proven for 22 years that real recovery, to a life of sobriety and healthy productivity is possible.

Adult & Teen Challenge BC Okanagan will host its annual golf tournament fundraiser on Monday, Sept. 9, at Sunset Ranch Golf & Country Club. Registration is now open. There are corporate sponsorships available on every hole for $500.
