A NextRide technology replacement for the Kelowna Regional Transit System (KRTS) rings up at $16.8 million.

Starting on Oct. 23, new Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) hardware will be installed on buses.

New digital full-colour passenger information displays will also be installed on all heavy-duty buses.

They will offer trip information including multiple upcoming stops, current routes, and service alerts.

A statement from BC Transit says the upgrades will help provide convenience and bus predictability for customers.

The NextRide Technology replacement is funded through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.

The project is cost-shared with the Government of Canada (50 per cent), the Province of British Columbia (40 per cent), and local government partners contributing the remaining 10 per cent.

The regular transit schedule will operate as planned, however, real-time data may be unavailable intermittently during the NextRide upgrade.

The NextRide desktop trip planning tool will no longer be available starting Oct. 23.

Customers should use the BC Transit website and other real-time trip planning applications such as:

• the Transit App (mobile only);
• Google Maps (desktop and mobile);
• their own favourite trip-planning app; or
• refer to the rider害羞草研究所檚 guide.
