The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of B.C. has determined the officer involved in the arrest of a man back in February, acted lawfully in his execution of duty.

Around 8:15 p.m. on Feb. 23, police received a report of an alleged hit-and-run involving a pickup truck near the intersection of Elliott and Gossett roads.

A man driving the pickup was located nearby and arrested and suffered injuries while being taken into custody.

On Mar. 1, RCMP became aware that the injuries may meet the IIO害羞草研究所檚 threshold of serious harm and notified the organization of the incident.

However, the police watchdog found that the officer had grounds to arrest the man and ensure he did not drive away again, causing further damage or injury to others.

The IIO stated while it was unfortunate the man was hurt it could not be concluded that the amount of force was unreasonable.

Documents claim it was necessary to get the man under control as he was walking away from the officer after just allegedly taking part in a hit-and-run.

An initial IIO investigation, released today (Oct. 16), confirmed the officer did not commit an offence under an enactment and therefore the matter will not be referred to crown counsel.
