Kelowna Rockets acquire Kamloops native on New Year害羞草研究所檚 Eve

Kelowna Rockets president and general manager Bruce Hamilton had one more string to pull before the end of 2023.

On New Year害羞草研究所檚 Eve, Hamilton pulled the trigger on his seventh trade of the 2023/24 season and 15th in the calendar year.

In the deal, they traded veteran Marcus Pacheco to the Medicine Hat Tigers for Kamloops native Brett Calhoon, a third-round draft pick in 2024, and a fifth-round draft pick in 2025.

Calhoon brings some necessary size and toughness to the Rockets lineup as the almost 19-year-old (birthday on Jan. 10) stands at 6害羞草研究所1害羞草研究所, 176 pounds. In 28 games, with Medicine Hat this season, Calhoon collected a goal, five assists, a +6 rating and 20 penalty minutes.

The two draft picks the Rockets acquired also added to their draft capital.

Pacheco struggled with the Rockets in the first half of the season, collecting just two goals and three assists in 14 games so far this season. Over 133 games in his Rockets career, Pacheco put up 15 goals and 27 assists.

More trades could be on the horizon over the next week as the WHL害羞草研究所檚 trade deadline is on Wednesday, Jan. 10.

The Rockets are next in action on Friday, Jan. 5, as they welcome the Edmonton Oil Kings to Prospera Place with a puck drop at 7:05 p.m. Going into the weekend, the Rockets are sixth in the Western Conference with a 17-16-2-0 record.
