Winning weekend for Kelowna Rockets

The Rockets beat the Vancouver Giants and Tri-City Americans

The Kelowna Rockets collected all four points available to them on a weekend road trip.

It started Friday (Mar. 1) night at the Langley Events Centre as Caden Priceº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™s (11) overtime winner lifted Kelowna past the Vancouver Giants 4-3.

The Rockets led 3-0 heading into the third period, however, the Giants fought back to tie the game and force overtime.

Kelownaº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™s other goals came from Max Graham (12), who put the Rockets on the board at 7:13 of the first period. Two minutes later Graham (13) scored again on the power play. Tij Iginla (41) had the lone goal of the second period.

In overtime, Price blocked a shot in the Rockets zone, then joined teammates Mazen Leslie and Andrew Cristall on a rush into the Giants zone, getting a pass from Cristall and finding the back of the net for the game-winner.

Rockets goaltender Jari Kykkanen stopped 34 of 37 shots for his 22nd win of the season. Kelowna was outshot 37-28.

On Saturday (Mar. 2) night Kelowna crossed the border to take on the Trip-City Americans.

Cristall (35) opened the scoring on the power play at 18:47 of the first period.

Tij Iginla put the Rockets up 2-0 with this 42nd goal of the season at 8:08 of the second period. Bett Calhoon (3) made it 3-0 six minutes later, and Max Graham (14) closed out the period at 18:21 for a 4-0 Rockets lead.

Kelowna goaltender Kykkanen had his shutout bid spoiled by the Americansº¦Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù™ Jake Sloan at 11:06 of the third period.

He stopped 34 of 37 shots fired to earn first-star honours.

The Rockets record is now 28-28-3-1 and they are in seventh place in the Western Conference.

Kelowna faces the Tri-City Americans again on Wednesday, Mar. 5 as they make their final visit to Prospera Place.
