Two Kelowna businesses were issued fines this week for selling weed and alcohol to minors.

Upside Cider and Kiaro Cannabis have each received fines of $7,000 and have until March 13 and 15 to pay the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch.

On July 12, 2023, a minor agent, age 17, was sent into Upside Cider after an inspector had already gone inside the establishment. The inspector observed the minor agent bring a bottle of cider to the bar, purchase it without being asked for identification, and leave the business. The cider was logged into evidence and an observation form was completed.

The inspector then returned to the business, informed the bartender that he had sold liquor to a minor, and was notified of potential penalties.

On the same day, Kiaro in downtown Kelowna saw a minor agent, also 17, purchase cannabis gummies without any request for identification. The interaction was documented by the minor agent. An inspector entered the business following the underage purchase to inform staff that a minor had been served and of potential consequences.

The staff at both businesses complied with the inspector害羞草研究所檚 requests for identification, their Selling and Serving It Right certification, and shift schedules.

Both establishments must also post signage to inform the public of the infraction.
