Ten impaired drivers were taken off the road last week in the South Okanagan, according to the BC Highway Patrol (BCHP).
From July 4 to 6, more than 600 drivers were checked for sobriety in Penticton, Summerland and Osoyoos.
Along with the 10 drivers who were issued immediate roadside prohibitions, one person refused to provide a breath sample and two already-prohibited drivers were taken off the road.
"Our BCHP teams across the Okanagan will continue to focus on drivers impaired by alcohol and drugs through the summer season to reduce the serious injury and fatal collisions on our highways," said Inspector Rob Nason, officer in charge of BCHP Central.
The immediate roadside prohibitions that were issued ranged from three to 90 days depending on blood concentration, and were accompanied by vehicle impoundments, according to BCHP.
The more than 600 roadside checks 害羞草研究所� part of a provincial summer impaired driving campaign 害羞草研究所� come after Summerland RCMP nabbed two impaired drivers and issued 90-day prohibitions over the Canada Day long weekend.
"Drinking and driving has devastating effects on all of us," Nason said. "People who drive while impaired can lose their privilege to drive, they may be involved in collisions with life-altering outcomes and it can result in taking the lives of our friends, families and community members."
