In 2020 Redman was dismissed from PDCSS for numerous infractions, including using steak knives to play darts with a client, missed shifts and tardiness, violating a social media policy and abuse of overtime and travel with clients.

The decision was made by the BC Human Rights Tribunal.

A Princeton woman has exhausted her efforts to be restored to employment as a client support worker with Princeton and District Community Services Society. (PDCSS).

Megan Redmond had hoped the Hospital Employees Union (HEU) would re-secure her job, but the conflict ended with Redmond launching an internal union complaint regarding its representation of her claims, which were dismissed recently by the BC Human Rights Tribunal after a lengthy hearing.

She said she was discriminated against because of her disabilities.

According to the written decision released by the tribunal, Redmond was hired by PDCSS in 2019. It was her first job following a brain injury which had resulted in 18 months of rehabilitation.

In 2020 she was dismissed from PDCSS for numerous infractions, including using steak knives to play darts with a client, missed shifts and tardiness, violating a social media policy and abuse of overtime and travel with clients.

When the HEU could not broker an arrangement for PDCSS to employee Redmond again, she moved to a union petition, essentially complaining she had been discriminated against by her union representatives.

The decision notes that Redmond did not disclose all of her health issues when she was hired.

Becky Vermette, executive director of PDCSS, declined to comment on the matter, saying only that the society has no input or influence within the HEU or the tribunal.
